TIBCO:

Thanks to more processes, systems, and apps than ever before and the recent convergence of IT and business, business models and customer demands are continually evolving, meaning there are a number of new revenue opportunities. Because of this, the demand has only grown for rapid application development. These applications must also fit business needs and processes while integrating and extending existing systems.

But who is bearing the weight of all of this growing demand? Traditionally, IT or a third-party solution provider. However, IT is frequently backlogged with new app requests and third-party packaged solutions can be difficult to manage and evolve after development. This means fast development often isn’t a reality and that applications are disjointed. It also means that these new revenue opportunities can just pass by — certainly not the best environment for digital transformation.

So how do you meet the demand and grow your business without solely relying on IT? A low code development platform.

A low code platform allows citizen developers, that lack in-depth IT knowledge, to quickly and easily solve business problems with little to no coding. It creates a faster way to build smarter, more innovative applications.

In 2014, Forrester started tracking this growing software category. When they interviewed dozens of companies on their low-code platform use, they found that many of their low-code platforms helped accelerate development between five and ten times.

Rather than time-consuming hand-coding, low code development platforms offer visual app creation, update, and sharing. These were noted as specifically helpful traits for companies because they allowed for feedback in real time, quick innovation, and low-cost testing.

By using a low-code platform, IT is then free to solve the problems they are truly required for without slowing down or hurting the business.

A recent customer roadshow gave us the opportunity to meet with dozens of IT leaders in Europe and the US. All were contemplating low-code as a way to extend their reach by involving citizen developers (with the right balance of governance), improve business app prototyping (involving both business and IT), or speed up IT-led app development (patching skill gaps or simply getting things done faster). After seeing Live Apps in action these IT leaders could clearly see the benefits of adopting a low-code platform and the how it could positively impact their business.
